A: No, not by itself. Leather makes a great windbreaker but the insulation on this jacket is not very thick. You would need to wear something warm underneath. I don't think any of the jackets we sell are warm enough to handle 0 to -25F temperatures by themselves.

I don't ride either, but when I wear leather, I usually need at least a sweater underneath for anything under 35 degrees or so when walking around, and I am fairly cold tolerant, though maybe Long Island natives are more cold tolerant than me.

A: This one is cut thinner than average for cowhide, so it is pretty light if you remove the zipout liner. Only the really cheap "patchwork leather apparel" have any kind of coating. This one is top grain leather, and is just dyed.

There is also a similar lambskin jacket, the AL2700:

It's lighter and softer, and only has a thin polyester sewn-on liner. Lambskin is a bit delicate compared to other leather though.
